First of all, everyone has trigger points; they are a natural result of living tissue responding to the environment.
Massage therapist like to highlight the fact that these trigger points needs to be rubbed out. They usually say, “Oh you have a knot in this muscle, you need to see me on a regular basis to get rid of it.” And that’s all great, however what you don’t know is that you’re never going to get rid of that knot; why? Because again…everyone has trigger points.
What you need to ask yourself is why does the muscle have a knot? The answer is simple, the muscle is probably working overtime and you can massage it, rub it down and even put topical gels or lotions all over it but that will only provide a temporary solution.
So what should you do? Educate yourself. Think about what are you doing most of the day? Are you exercising properly? Are you stretching enough? Do you move properly? These are all questions that need answers in order to promote a healthier body. Once that is accomplished the trigger points will not cause problems anymore.
